As part of its drought-planning effort, EBMUD expanded its infrastructure to bring water from the Sacramento River to its reservoir and supply system in the Sacramento Valley. This project incorporates two new Pumping Plants and 17 miles of pipeline constructed across portions of San Joaquin and Sacramento Counties.

The pumping plants massing and scale are derived from neighboring agricultural structures while their stained concrete colors are borrowed from the warm palette of the surrounding landscape. Landscaping and berming serve to minimize the visual impact of the buildings and to integrate them with their rural sites. Skylights and clerestory windows light the buildings naturally while maintaining security.
